The right towbar for your vehicle
Both a fixed tongue and a removable hitch can be fitted to most vehicles. Which one suits yours comes down to the vehicle’s configuration, so it’s a decision we make vehicle by vehicle. Here’s how the two compare:
- Fixed tongue: the towball stays mounted, so it’s always ready to hook up with nothing to remove or store. It’s one solid fitting with no moving parts, and usually the most cost-effective option. Commonly chosen by people who tow often, or who leave a bike rack or carrier on.
- Removable hitch: the tongue clips out when you’re not towing, leaving a tidy rear end with no towball to catch your shins or block your parking sensors, and clips back in when you need it. Commonly chosen by people who tow now and then and like the towbar out of the way in between.

Should I choose a fixed or removable towbar?
Both can be fitted to most vehicles, so it comes down to how you’ll use it rather than what you drive. A fixed tongue is always ready and usually costs less, which suits regular towing. A removable hitch tucks away for a tidy rear end when you’re not towing. Tell us how often you tow and we’ll confirm what fits your vehicle and recommend the right one.
Do you sort the wiring too?
Yes, the quote covers supply, fitting and trailer-plug wiring, done in the same visit.
Will a towbar suit my EV or hybrid?
Many EVs and hybrids can take a towbar for a rack or light towing, but it depends on the model. Send us the make, model and year and we’ll confirm what’s available.
Can you fit towbars outside Hawke’s Bay?
Fitting happens at our Napier workshop. Racks, carriers and trailer gear can be ordered from the online shop wherever you are.
